Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the forty day season of Lent which is set aside in preparation for Easter. The season becomes a true celebration when the reality of Easter’s final triumph pervades it; when our abstinence frames God’s Providence.
Artist Zak Prekop paints abstractions, which begin with random forms without reference to nature or any intellectual system. The many complex layers of paint which then build up the painting’s surface call into question the distinction between foreground and background, between forms and the space around forms, between presence and absence.
