Candlemas

Candlemas celebrates the presentation of the infant Jesus in the Temple. The feast coincides with the midpoint of winter, halfway between the shortest day and the spring equinox.

Valerie Jaudon’s paintings present intricate interlacing patterns and overlying grids which intuitively, rather than mechanically, emerge and recede in a shallow space. Their arcs and arches suggest gates and doorways and entry into sacred spaces.

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise!”—Psalm 100:4

“If you have been in the vicinity of the sacred – ever brushed against the holy – you retain it more in your bones than in your head; and if you haven’t, no description of the experience will ever be satisfactory.”
―Daniel Taylor
